This is a part-time, permanent position, likely leading to full-time. It is based out of our Murphy, NC office. Note we require answers to specific questions in your cover letter when applying, as described below.

Job overview


  • About 70% of your time will be spent assisting in physical installations of solar panels, racking and other components of ground- and roof-mounted solar panel (PV) arrays while complying with company standards and safety procedures.


  • About 30% of your time will be spent assisting with operations functions of the solar business as needed. Lots of variety, includes indoor (office/computer/warehouse) and outdoor (maintenance/handy man) work. Plus, ongoing technical learning on how solar PV systems are designed, how to install them, and how to repair them. No prior knowledge needed, but we do require a positive attitude and a capacity and desire for learning.


General Requirements

  • MUST be 18 years old or over

  • MUST be able to pass initial drug screening, criminal background check, and random ongoing drug screenings during employment. (Please do NOT apply if you are unable to pass these tests on an ongoing basis.)

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance

  • Daily cell phone access

  • Reliable transportation (your own vehicle) plus valid driver’s license

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States

  • Able to work irregular, sometimes long hours

  • Strong attention to detail, pride of ownership in your tasks

  • Strong work ethic, team player, positive attitude

  • Excellent work and personal references

  • Fast learner, willing to be coached

Physical/Construction Requirements


  • Able to perform tasks in all weather conditions (heat, rain, wind, etc) including multiple hours in direct sun/heat with no shade. This is a very hot, physical job that requires extended kneeling, bending, squatting, and walking.

  • Able to comfortably lift 45 lbs overhead

  • Able to comfortably lift, handle and carry heavy, large, and awkwardly shaped objects (e.g. solar panels)

  • Able to climb ladders up to 25 ft high and work on inclined roof surfaces (you must be okay working at heights for extended periods)

  • Able to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, stoop, crouch, rotate, reach, kneel, grip, on both even and uneven surfaces

  • Physical mobility of upper and lower body

  • Able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders

  • Able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands, alerts, and alarms

  • Must have visual acuity and depth perception consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces, differentiate between colors on signage, and perform essential duties of position

  • Understanding of basic construction principles and basic construction tools, e.g. string line, level, drill

  • No problem getting your hands dirty and doing the gritty work that comes along with the job


Office & Computer Skills

  • Able to use MS Office; familiarity with Excel, Word and how to email

  • Comfortable with computers; able to quickly learn new apps and software systems with training and support

  • Able to quickly research topics on internet using search engines

  • Good basic math skills (e.g. basic algebra, basic trigonometry)

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Good written and spoken English

  • Good customer service skills, on phone and in person


Preferred but NOT required


  • Associate degree or higher in engineering, electronics, industrial systems, or similar

  • Additional software experience e.g. Adobe Acrobat, design software

  • Solar PV installation experience

  • Additional carpentry, construction, roofing, mechanical or electrical experience

  • OSHA 10

Overview: This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our Murphy, NC office.

We are looking for a full-time (around 35 hours per week) Administrative Assistant who wants their work to mean more!


Carolina Mountain Solar plans, builds and installs commercial solar panel systems for businesses in far Western North Carolina and North Georgia.

It’s not easy to install a solar power system. We work in a highly regulated, constantly changing industry.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping/Accounts Receivable & Payable Support (approx. 40% of work time)

· Payroll: prepare bi-weekly timecards, report work hours to accountant; maintain electronic files of payroll-related filings.

· Maintain personnel folders (hardcopy and electronic).

· Accounts receivable support: receive customer payments by recording transactions. Create and email invoices and receipts as needed. Prepare deposit slips for bank deposits.

· Accounts payable support: Keep track of all payments and expenditures, including purchase orders, invoices, statements, vendor files.

· Accurately track and file all receipts by category. Scan nd file bank/credit card statements (hardcopy and electronic). Organize files for end-of-month reconciliation functions.

· Track labor hours by project and workers compensation class.

· Perform data entry as needed, especially into Excel and Adobe Acrobat (PDF) forms.

Construction Project Support (approx. 50% of work time)

· Complete lengthy and detailed State, Federal and Utility paperwork (hard copy and electronic) for each solar project. Required highly accurate data entry.

· Maintain extensive hardcopy and electronic files, client lists and internal databases

· Complete multi-step solar grant applications

· Draft and send contracts to new customers via Docusign

· Maintain project management boards by tracking and updating tasks completed

· Inventory: track ordering/shipment, invoices, and packing slips. Coordinate returns of damaged product to vendors.

· Warranty paperwork: track serial numbers of solar panels as they are installed using vendor app, register them through online portal

· Coordinate timing of building permits, utility inspections, equipment rentals as needed, by phoning external partners.

· Take notes during meetings (one-on-one and group) and create written record of action items, technical notes, and other items as requested.

· Perform internet research as requested. Summarize findings verbally.

Office Support (approx. 10% of work time)

· Answer main phone, take messages

· Receive mail, walk-in customers, and occasional warehouse deliveries

· Enter new customer information into CRM software and Outlook contacts

· Assist in maintaining Outlook calendar for project and office functions

· Keep office supply cupboard organized

· Proactively communicate with management regarding customer issues and project progress

· Other tasks as assigned – room to grow based on your skills and experience!

Mandatory Requirements

  • High School Diploma

  • Able to pass drug test and criminal background check

  • Available during regular business hours at our Downtown Murphy, NC office i.e. 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, for about 35 hours per week

  • Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office, especially Word and Excel; Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, use of Internet and internet-based platforms, printers, and scanners. Able to use iPhone.

  • Excellent written and spoken English

  • Type 30+ words per minute minimum

  • Personable, polite and friendly; excellent customer service skills

  • Fast and highly accurate data entry

  • Professional, groomed appearance

  • Able to maintain confidentiality of customer and company information

  • Able to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with company standards and expectations

Preferred but not required:

  • Some college education; Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Office Administration, or Business Administration preferred

  • Past success (2+ years) in administrative support role such as: bookkeeper, administrative assistant, office staff, purchasing or HR role

  • Some experience with Quickbooks, CRM and/or project management software

Location: Based in historic Downtown Murphy, NC, we are 2 hours north of Atlanta, 2 hours west of Asheville, and 2 hours east of Chattanooga.
